SQL server 2005 is one very important product for many of the data centers out there. So it becomes a necessity to keep the product up to date with the latest bug fixes and feature additions.

The latest in the SQL line, the SQL server 2008 is expected to be out in the market by the end of this year. Officially its expected to be out in the third quarter of 2008, but given the track record of Microsoft, its highly unlikely that the release will happen in time.

Meanwhile, the service pack 3 for SQL server 2005 is being readied by Microsoft. The pack is expected to hit the users this summer. The pack is designed after taking lots of feedback from the users.
