A bunch of security experts have detected some vulnerabilities in Quick time player on windows XP upgraded with service pack 2 and windows vista upgraded with service pack 1.

The vulnerability will enable an attacker to gain control of the system. If an admin is logged in then he will get all admin privileges. Once in, he can do what ever he wants, like installing new programs, setting up spy wares etc.

The attack  is planned by creating a special quick time media file with embedded code that can be executed remotely. The code can be distributed with any sort of media file, especially porn.

The hacker team who discovered the hole have informed apple and they are yet to get a response.

If you are waiting to upgrade, then download them now itself. As they release this officially, the downloads are going to be very slow.

The downloads are currently available on some torrent sites also. I havent seen them yet, but there are unconfirmed reports of hacked XP service pack 3 on torrent networks.

There are unconfirmed reports that the microsoft windows XP service pack 3 is now available in many of the Torrent networks. These are hacked by some experts and are supposed to be able to bypass the windows genuine check. It seems we still have some smart asses around.

Users who are downloading service packs from torrent sites should check for malware before they install it. Most hacked things have some sorts or spyware or malware with it.

The genuine windows XP service pack 3 will be available for download from April 29 onwards.

Now vista users will get the service pack 1 auto delivered to their machines via windows update utility. Microsoft servers are getting loaded heavily, so they are doing it in different phases. If you want to install it urgently you can go to windows update utility and turn it on manually.

SP1 is expected to have around 600 bugs fixed. Im still unsure whether to install vista SP1 or not cos a friend of mine said, his PC is restarting continuously after he installed vista service pack 1.

After having fixed the initial troubles with the first service packs of windows vista, Microsoft released the all other language version of it also. The additional languages that now has vista service packs are Danish, Finnish, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Dutch, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Swedish, Chinese (simplified), Chinese (Hong Kong S.A.R.), Arabic, Bulgarian, Czech, Greek, Estonian, Hebrew, Croatian, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Polish, Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Serbian (Latin), Thai, Turkish, and Ukrainian.

The standalone all language pack for 32bits is 545 MB and for 64 bit, it is 874 MB. This has not prerequisite problems and will install without any driver problems. The first versions of the service pack had issues with various users, complaining that there are some driver compatibility problems with the service pack.
